What's not protected?

The following represent a few scenarios that the Gear Cover Guarantee does not cover:
  • Any Public Liability to a Third Party for injury, death, or property damage of whatever nature.
  • Damage resulting from cleaning, repair, dyeing, bleaching, alteration or restoration.
  • Manufacturer failure or inherent vice or defect. That is, anything that may be covered by a manufacturer's warranty.
  • Wear, tear or gradual deterioration. This generally means any fault which would occur under normal use and conditions.
  • Pre-existing damage e.g. damage that occurred before handover to the Renter.
To view the full list of scenarios not covered, please view the Gear Cover Guarantee Terms.

What's protected?

The Gear Cover Guarantee provides protection to owners for damage or loss to gear which may occur during the rental period. Payments are subject to certain conditions, limitations, and exclusions. For more details, read the Gear Cover Guarantee Terms.
We require that a Gear Cover Guarantee claim request be submitted through the GoGet system. This way we ensure safety and confidentiality of claims.
Owners seeking payment under the Gear Cover Guarantee agree to cooperate with GoGet and its nominated party, including providing documentation of the claimed damage or loss and agreeing to inspection in cases where we deem it necessary.

Frequently Asked Questions

How does the GoGet Gear Cover Guarantee process work?

When in an emergency situation, the owner or renter should first contact the police (if applicable), emergency personnel, or the proper authorities.
When the situation is not an emergency, the owner should attempt to negotiate a resolution with the renter, prior to filing an official claim.
If the owner and renter are not able to resolve, the owner should carefully review the Gear Cover Guarantee Terms and determine if they are eligible before submitting a request to GoGet.
Owners have until 48 hours after the scheduled return date to submit a claim. Any claim submitted after the expiry of this time will be void. On the submission of valid claims, you will receive a confirmation email detailing next steps and any documentation that we require in order to finalise. Once received, we will review all documentation, evaluate the claim, and contact the owner upon completion.

What should I do before submitting a claim?

The owner and renter should try resolve the issue directly as often times, owners and renters can resolve issues independently of GoGet. If you and your renter are unable to resolve, we recommend that you compile as much documentation as possible in order to submit along with your claim. For example:
  • photographs of the damage being claimed for
  • a police report (where applicable e.g. for an accident on a public road, theft, other crime committed etc.)
  • receipts or some alternative evidence of the accurate fair market value or report cost
  • proof of ownership
  • any other documentation that you feel may be helpful to processing your request or as may be required from us from time to time
If you are unsure of whether the incident in question will be covered under the Gear Cover Guarantee or if you have any further questions, you are welcome to contact our Support Center.

How does the Gear Cover Guarantee work with the damage co-payment?

The damage co-payment can be very useful for owners and renters in that it encourages resolution of minor incidents independently of GoGet's involvement. The damage co-payment is paid over by the renter in the form of a security deposit.
The damage co-payment paid by the renter towards the cost of repair-or replacement is applied and will be off set by GoGet for all claims payments as follows:
  • for Gear valued at less than R5000: 10% of the value of the item
  • for Gear valued at more than R5000: 5% of the value of the item

How long will it take for my claim to be processed?

The process varies on a case by case basis due to a number of factors such as complexity of the matter, quality and accuracy of documentation submitted, calculation of the owner and renter etc. We do however strive to resolve all claims without any undue delay where possible.
